Lode Runner is a 2D puzzle-platform game, developed by Douglas E. Smith and published by Broderbund in 1983. Its game-play mechanics are similar to Space Panic from 1980. The player controls a character who must collect all the gold pieces in a level and get to the end while being chased by a number of enemies. It is one of the first games to include a level editor.


After the original game, a number of remakes, spin-offs and sequels were published in the Lode Runner series for different computers and consoles, and by different developers and publishers. Tozai Games holds the copyright and trademark rights. (Source from Wikipedia)

Lode Runner (1983)

Lode Runner was originally released on June 23, 1983.[1] The original microcomputer versions were for the Apple II, Atari 8-bit family, VIC-20, Commodore 64, and IBM PC. The VIC-20 version was released on cartridge, including the level editor. The Commodore 64 had both a disk and cartridge release, with the latter having 32 levels. The IBM version was originally on a self-booting disk; it is incompatible with video cards other than CGA. A later PC release appeared in 1986 which runs on any video card.

Lode Runner: The Legend Returns is a 1994 remake of 1982’s Lode Runner video game. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Sega Saturn, and Sony PlayStation.

Lode Runner 3-D (1999)

Lode Runner 3-D is a Nintendo 64 game in the Lode Runner franchise. The game was developed by Big Bang and was released in 1999 in North America and Europe by Infogrames and in Japan by Banpresto. It is the first 3D game in the Lode Runner series.

Lode Runner: The Dig Fight (2000)

Lode Runner: The Dig Fight is an arcade sequel to Lode Runner. It is very similar to its predecessor. You must find all gold on the map and several enemies chase you. You can dig temporary holes in the ground to catch and eliminate enemies. The game uses a new graphics set and has some story elements, presented through static cut-scenes.

Lode Runner Deluxe (2006)

Lode Runner Deluxe is a mobile version of the classic puzzle-platformer Lode Runner. Collect treasures on each map as you outwit enemies by digging holes.
