Siloso Point

Consisted of Skywalk, Fort Siloso and location for Shangri-la Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa.

Fort Siloso is a decommissioned coastal artillery battery in Sentosa, Singapore. It consists of 12 such batteries which made up “Fortress Singapore” at the start of World War II, and saw action during the Battle of Singapore. The fort is now a military museum open to the public. The Surrender Chambers in Fort Siloso reopened in June 2017 with a refreshed exhibition and free admission. Fort Siloso was built in the late 19th century. During that time, Singapore had become an important trading port for the British, so it was imperative that the island was protected from sea invasion.

However, during World War II, Japanese troops invaded Singapore by land from north Malaya. This led the British to turn Fort Siloso’s guns towards the mainland instead to help support the ground forces defending Singapore from the invasion.

Today, more than 70 years after the war, Fort Siloso stands as a beloved historical site. The only preserved coastal fort in Singapore, it is home to a wealth of WWII memorabilia, including coastal guns and the remains of fortified military structures and tunnels.

Fort Siloso

Fort Siloso is located in the west of the island, with the guns of this preserved fort still standing. Fort Siloso was built by the British in 1880s to guard the narrow western entrance to Keppel Harbour. The fort guarded the western approaches to Singapore during World War II. By 1939 it was armed with two 6-inch (150 mm) Mark2 guns and two rapid firing 12-pounder guns. Fort Siloso is now the only surviving coastal gun battery from the twelve such batteries that made up Fortress Singapore at the start of the war.
