Europe is a continent, also recognised as a part of Eurasia, located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. Comprising the westernmost peninsulas of Eurasia, it shares the continental landmass of Afro-Eurasia with both Asia and Africa. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south and Asia to the east. Europe is commonly considered to be separated from Asia by the watershed of the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, the Greater Caucasus, the Black Sea and the waterways of the Turkish Straits. Although much of this border is over land, Europe is almost always recognised as its own continent because of its great physical size and the weight of its history and traditions. NORTHERN EUROPE

The northern region of Europe has several definitions. Narrower definitions may describe Northern Europe as being roughly north of the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, which is about 54°N, or may be based on other geographical factors such as climate and ecology. A broader definition would include the area of Europe north of the Alps. (Source from Wikipedia)

EASTERN EUROPE

Eastern Europe is the eastern region of Europe. There is no consistent definition of the precise area it covers, partly because the term has a wide range of geopolitical, geographical, ethnic, cultural, and  socioeconomic  connotations.  Russia, located in Eastern Europe, is both the largest and most populous country of Europe, spanning roughly 40% of the continent’s total landmass, with over 15% of its total population. SOUTHERN EUROPE

Southern Europe is the southern region of Europe. It is also known as Mediterranean Europe, as its geography is essentially marked by Mediterranean Sea. Definitions of Southern Europe includes some or all of these countries and regions: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, East Thrace (Turkey), Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Southern France, Spain, and Vatican City. WESTERN EUROPE

Western Europe is the western region of Europe. The region’s countries and territories vary depending on context.

Beginning with foreign exploration during the Age of Discovery, roughly from the 15th century, the concept of Europe as “the West” gradually became distinguished from and eventually replaced the dominant use of “Christendom” as the preferred endonym within the region. Later, during the Age of Enlightenment, the concept of “Eastern Europe” was created to juxtapose that of “Western Europe”.
